My Background

Hello! My name is Dexter Kellough and Wall Street Handicapping is my company. In 1979 I was introduced to the exciting world of horse racing by my mother. I vividly remember watching her place bets at Oaklawn Park using horses’ names, lucky numbers, and worthless daily horse picks offered by the so-called “gurus” of her day. And believe me, those losing racing picks stuck with me.

Fast-forward to 1982 at Sul Ross State University where I was studying accounting, statistics and computer science while on an academic and basketball scholarship. A teammate invited me to the Ruidoso Downs in New Mexico where I blew $80 in one weekend–a considerable amount back then for an 18 year old college student.  After that, I vowed to learn all I could about handicapping and betting on horses. I read Andrew Beyer’s insightful book, Beyer on Speed, and my outlook on horse racing was completely turned upside down.

Even though the book was about speed handicapping thoroughbred racehorses, the knowledge I gained allowed me to write a crude quarter horse speed computer program. The concept was simple: The horse with the fastest projected time wins. I could not wait to return to Ruidoso Downs with my new understanding. My next time, I came away with a profit of over $350–big dollars by today’s standards!

Over the next few decades, I honed my software program to make sure it stays  current with the times.
